Book review – “Becoming Rain” by KA Tucker – Forbidden love story between a cop and her target

becoming rain

Format: ebook, paperback
Series: book 2 of The Burying Water series
Rating: 16+ for language, sexual content
Genre: New Adult

In the second book of the series, we meet back up with Luke (Jesse’s best friend) who is working up the ranks with Rust and his company when he meets Rain. He can’t stop the way she makes him feel but he’s in for a rude awakening as she has her own hidden agenda: To collect evidence and put him behind bars. But as she gets to know the real Luke, she has a hard time knowing where Rain begins and Clara ends.

This book, like the first book of the series touches on a forbidden romance (or what is perceived as a forbidden romance). Clara knows that she shouldn’t fall for Luke because it could cause problems with the case. She is torn between her job and her feelings for Luke. As she gets to know him, the lines become even more blurred because Luke is not as guilty as the FBI thought he was.

Luke never trusted anyone in his life except for Jesse and his uncle Rust. But as he gets to know Rain (aka Clara) he finds himself opening up to her, which is going to spell bad for him. We all know that at some point he’s going to find out that she is a cop and you wonder how bad it’s going to be when he does.

As the story unfolds, we dive deeper into the type of ‘business’ that Rust did and more information on the type of world that was introduced in the first book. This book proves that sometimes people make bad decisions when they don’t know any better. There is a few twists in this story (perhaps less then the first one) but the one at the end is certainly enough to make you laugh because it was so obvious but you did miss it.

Like the first story, KA Tucker is able to create characters that you are rooting for from beginning to end and you pray that they are able to make it through the betrayal that Clara is doing to Luke.

You will fall even more in love with Luke as we get to see the softer side of him with his relationship with Clara. The way that they go back and forth is fun and entertaining. Definitely a great addition to the series.
